Drink of the Week:: Tiger Punch
We were exploring where places to visit, and Mexico and, more specifically, Mexico City kept popping up as the place due to the vibrant bar scene that has emerged. One of the bars at the top of our list is (@hankypankydf). From keeping up with their IG account, they recently featured the Tiger Punch Cocktail, and we figured since, we had never tried it, why not give it a go! Well, we loved it; since we had a few nice days in Chicago, the rum felt like the perfect base spirit for that almost summer season. Get your summer ready and try some Tiger Punch!
History of the Drink
It is not entirely clear where the Tiger Punch cocktail, and it's not entirely clear who first created it. However, it's believed to have originated in the Caribbean or South Pacific in the 1950s.
In terms of popularity, the Tiger Punch cocktail was popularized during the tiki craze of the 1950s and 1960s. It was a favorite among patrons of tiki bars like Trader Vic's and Don the Beachcomber. Today, the Tiger Punch remains a beloved classic tiki drink enjoyed by cocktail enthusiasts around the world.
Ingredients
- 2 oz orange juice
- 1 oz lemon juice
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 oz passion fruit syrup
- 1 oz honey syrup
- 2 oz Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva
- 1 oz light rum
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- Crushed ice
Directions
- In a cocktail shaker, combine all the ingredients except for the crushed ice.
- Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
- Fill a hurricane glass with crushed ice.
- Strain the cocktail into the glass.
- Garnish with a slice of orange and a sprig of mint.
